Unfortunately the honest answer is NOTHING! It is a BIG marketing ploy, used by spray tan companies to scare you into purchasing their solutions!
The idea behind the choosing of a green based product is that on the colour wheel Green is at the opposite end of the spectrum therefore it should counteract throwing Orange tones. But all those different colour bases in the spray solutions are made from the colours that make up the instant colour guide Bronzer, that you see when you first get a spray tan. These bronzers are all washed off when you have your first shower and has NO bearing on the final colour of your spray tan at all! Applying products that are green or red, or the latest one Violet based does not mean that you can spray on as many coats as you like and you will not send them Orange.
There are two reasons why people turn orange after being sprayed:
1. Solution with a low quality and low grade DHA.
2. Applying too much solution onto the body.
So are we all being led to believe the wrong thing? YES, AND DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!
What Is DHA?
You might have heard the term DHA before in regards to sunless tanners but do you know what it is? DHA is in fact the key active ingredient in all current spray tan solution products. This is short for docosahexanoic acid and is an important sunless tanning agent. You may have also heard of the DHA that comes in fish oil, known as dihydroxyacetone (high in omega 3 fatty acids.) The DHA in sunless tanners is not food grade but it is also not harmful for your skin in any way currently known. DHA is actually one of the few FDA approved colorant cosmetics, so you can be sure that you’re safe using products containing it. This is in fact a colourless product. Products that contain higher amounts of bronzers will stain the outer layer of the epidermis. This means that the bronzer can detertime how dark a tan can come out.
We suggest that you apply single coat applications on people you are spray tanning to ensure you will not have any over development.
DHA and Tanning. Are There Any Risks Involved?
It is recommended that inhaling products containing DHA is avoided and that spraying the DHA containing product on and around mucus membranes is avoided. However, would you really want to inhale or spray any sort of cosmetic products into your mucus membranes? As long as the products are used as the package instructions advise, there should be just about zero safety risks to worry over when getting your tan.
DHA Was Once Used In Many Supplements. Although the results are no longer supported, back in the 1990′s many sports supplements contained DHA as it was believed that consuming it actually improved performance, leanness, and stamina for athletes. Nowadays, non food grade DHA is used primarily for tanning products only.
DHA Is Nothing To Fear. It has been established that DHA is basically a non-toxic compound. The natural form – DHAP is actually found throughout the body and is a type of amino acid. Although inhalation should be avoided, clients can expect just about zero risks to having a DHA containing tanning solution applied to their skin. To prevent inhalation simple precautions can be taken, such as avoiding spraying the nose or mouth areas. Face masks can be worn by those applying the tanner for an additional layer or protection from inhalation. As long as employees know how to use the spray gun and equipment, it will be quite easy to avoid getting tanning solution in the mucus membranes.

Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes the stones and preheats them in a bath of 120 to 150 degrees of water. Then, the temperature of the water should be decreased to 60 degrees (the working temperature). Who shouldn't get Hot Stone Massage?
Hot Stone massage is not appropriate if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, or are on medication that thins your blood. You shouldn't get a hot stone massage if you are pregnant or have sunburn. You also may want to reconsider if you are menopausal, as it may trigger a hot flush.
Generally clients should avoid hot stone therapy if they've got any cold or flu symptoms. However, client's who are recovering from a cold could be treated and therefore they need to know that the treatment will draw the cold symptoms. In this case it may make them feel worse for a few days.
Sleepiness after the treatment is quite normal, as the heated stones are lowering your blood pressure. Increased urination or flu-like symptoms (runny nose, coughing) may be experienced, but these will be temporary as the body re-balances itself. You might also feel emotional and it’s quite natural to feel tearful. In some cases headaches may follow. A response like that is nothing to worry about and is the result of the massage encouraging the body systems to function more efficiently, speeding up waste removal and the elimination of toxins.

To remain comfortable afterwards and to maintain the look, achieved as a result of your treatment, you need to know and apply the following information:
1.If another chemical treatment in this area is required, it will have to be completed one week after the eyelash perm.
2.An eyelash tint and eyebrow tint can be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks, as the colour reduces gradually (due to the sunlight exposure and the natural growth cycle of the hair.
3.Use eye cream, but do not use highly perfumed creams on the area for at least 24 hours.
4.Do not wear eye make up for at least 8 hours, following the eyebrow shaping treatment.
5.Continue to use an antiseptic lotion at home.
6.Do not rub the eye area and do not keep wiping hands over the area.
7.Do not get the area sun burnt.
8.If discomfort, or continued reddening occurs after brow shaping:
-Cleanse the eyebrow area, using a mild antiseptic lotion or witch-hazel, applied with a small piece of clean, dampened cotton wool.
-Apply an antiseptic soothing lotion or cream with clean, dry cotton wool.
-Gently remove excess antiseptic lotion or cream, using a clean, soft facial tissue.
-Repeat as necessary approximately every 4 hours. If the reddening does not subside within the next 24 hours, contact a doctor.
9.Tell your beauty therapist if there are any adverse reactions after the treatment. This is important for your health and for the future planning of your treatments.

Erythema – Redness appears on the skin surface. This should only last for a couple of hours. To reduce blood flow to the area, apply an ice cold compress.
Physical sensitivity – Female clients at certain stages of their menstrual cycle, or clients on some forms of hormone therapy may experience more pain due to hormonal changes. A client with a fever may also find they are more sensitive to waxing.
Skin irritation – The itchiness can occur due to new hair, coming through the mouth of the hair follicle. This could happen particularly with people, who have coarse hair and skin. If this occurs you should use ice cold compress, calamine lotion, or similar. You could use a natural bristle brush lightly on the area to relive the itchy sensation.
Whiteheads – if these occur, do not touch or squeeze them and use antiseptic lotion. This problem can arise sometimes with the first waxing, but after that no reaction usually occurs.
Blood spots – It could happen when terminal hairs are removed from deep hair follicles, such as in the underarms or on bikini line. If you re-wax regularly, this effect will gradually be reduced over time.
Folliculitis – This is inflammation and infection of the hair follicle. If the infection involves only the odd follicle, then it will usually clear up rapidly. Use antiseptic lotions and do not touch the area with dirty hands. If the problem continues, you should search help from a medical practitioner.
Skin grazing – This could be caused by waxing sun burnt, or previously sun burnt skin; thinned skin, caused by clients taking drugs such as ROACCUTANE; desensitized skin due to diabetic complications. This area may develop hyper pigmentation, especially when exposed to sunlight, however this will gradually fade. Use ice cold compress and avoid exposure of that area to sun or solaria, until the mark has completely resolved.
Bruising or swelling – Apply ice cold compresses; avoid hot showers and wearing of tight clothes.
Chicken pox effect – The empty follicles appear red. This is a normal reaction and is only temporary. The red spots will usually fade in 3 to 4 hours, but for some people they may last for up to 12 hours.
Thickening of the skin – When the hair is removed, the surface layer of the skin will also be exfoliated and this could result in thickening of the skin. The areas prone to it are the underarm and bikini line. In order to protect itself, the skin thickens and this may make it difficult for regrowth hairs to break through. Use skin softeners, specialized products and gently exfoliate the area.
Ingrown hair –The clients, who are prone to ingrown hairs should use a loofah gently on the area (not the face) or use home care products that are designed to assist the problem. Do not pluck the hair. Leave it in the follicle to have a chance to normalize and heal.

General for waxing
Skin is more susceptible to irritation or infection for up to 48 hours after waxing
1.Do not wear tight clothing, particularly undergarments near the bikini and underarm to avoid irritation. Avoid tights, jeans and leotards, because they may cause excessive perspiration.
2.Do not re-apply stockings after leg and bikini line treatments, as the stockings may carry bacteria, which could infect your hair follicles.
3.Do not sunbathe for 24 hours, as the skin will be sensitive and hyper pigmentation may occur; do not swim for 24 hours, as the salt water and chlorine will sting the skin; avoid sand, as it may contain bacteria.
4.Do not use deodorant under the arms or skin perfumes for 24 hours in the waxed area, because the ingredients may set up a reaction.
5.Do not use make up for 4 to 12 hours on the treated area.
6.Avoid soap, use soap free products and lukewarm water, when bathing for a few hours after the treatment.
7.Moisturize after showering, but do not use perfumed lotions.
8.Use a hair retarder four to five days after treatment.
9.Avoid activities which may cause heavy perspiration or expose the area to bacteria (gardening, gym).
Brazilian /XXX/ wax
If you do not take the correct precautions, there might be some post treatment infection complications, so be aware, and please:
1.Wear loose clothing and avoid any activities, that will cause friction – any friction on the area will aggravate the already sensitive skin.
2.Do not have heat treatments or hot showers after treatment. Do not sunbathe or use solaria after treatment for the next 24 hours.
4.Avoid activities, which cause perspiration – work outs, running, using a sauna.
5.Cotton underwear is the best, as it allows perspiration to evaporate from the skin surface.
6.Do not loofah the area until one week after the treatment. After that, you could gently loofah the area with a clean glove or mitt two to three times a week /this helps to prevent in grown hairs/.
7.If you get ingrown hairs, you should not pick at it. It is best to come into the salon and have them removed. Use the recommended correct products for them.

1.Ensure that you are freshly showered. If you are not, ask your beauty therapist for baby wipes, so you could clean the treatment area, before you get on the treatment couch.
2.Do not apply lotion to the area before the treatment.
3.The hair needs to be ½ centimeter long at least.
4.Wear loose clothing – tight clothing will rub against the area and aggravate tender skin.
5.Relax. A relaxed body and mind feel less pain.
6.You can take an ibuprofen or aspirin 30-60 minutes before treatment.
7.Do not have alcohol, caffeine or stimulatory medications before the treatment.
8.If you get a hive like reaction to the waxing, then you could take an anti-histamine if you are not contraindicated.
9.Moisturized body and skin feel less pain. Increase your water intake not only prior to the service, but as a general life style habit.

Swedish massage is based on the Western concepts of anatomy and physiology as opposed to energy work that is more common in Asian-style massage and is the foundation for other types of massage (including sports massage, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy massage). If it is raining the day of your appointment, it is recommended that you bring an umbrella and/or wear protective clothing - such as long pants, long-sleeved shirts and a sweatshirt.
If you take your bra off when you're getting sprayed, it is not recommend that you put it back on immediately after. If you need to put a bra on after your spray tan do not use sports bras. You could put your bra on the loosest strap with the bra straps tucked in.
The instant colour seen is the cosmetic bronzer. The tan itself is clear and will develop over time. The bronzer will be seen washing of in the shower. This is normal and the nice natural tan will be left.
You will feel a little sticky and the spray tan does have a slight odor to it – this is normal. You will feel sticky until your first shower.
Try not to touch your skin to see if you are sticky. The solution does feel sticky while it is in the developing phase before your first shower and this is normal. If you touch your skin and do not wash the insides of your hands, your palms may end up becoming stained because palms are not supposed to come in contact with the spray tan solution.
If you do accidentally touch your skin, wash the insides of your hands as directed by your Beauty Therapist! When needed, wash only the insides of your hands while the spray tan is developing. The most effective way to do this is with hand sanitizer or an antibacterial wipe. If you do not have these available, you can use a paper towel or towel with soap.
The bronzer may get on the inside of your clothes or on your sheets. It should not stain, however we cannot guarantee this. Wear dark colored clothing, long sleeves and long pants to bed. You could also cover your hands with socks while you sleep. This will prevent the spray tan from transferring to your hands while you're sleeping and making them extra dark! If you are coming later in the day/night and you can put on the clothes that you are wearing to bed, this is useful!
The tan is not going to just disappear, you are going to notice it fading. You can start exfoliating when you notice it is starting to fade and/or in preparation for your next tan. Your face will fade faster as you wash it more frequently.

If you've never been naked in front of a stranger before so they can spray your entire body with a cold brown liquid, don't worry - it's not as horrendous as you'd think. There are a few things that are very handy to know, so read on to be enlightened before you go glow...
- While the therapist waits for you outside the room, get completely undressed, remove all jewellery and get to grips with the accessories provided. No matter how silly you feel - put on disposable pants, sticky feet, and a hair net.
- When you're in the tanning 'tent' (a one-person pod with an open front), and the therapist starts by applying the formula, dispersed through a spray gun, you'll instantly notice, it's frikkin' cold, but…what can you do? That’s the price of beauty!
- Although every therapist tans differently, they'll usually work their way down the body, doing the front first and then your back. Then they might ask you to lean your bum out. Don't stress – it's just so there are no white patches in any 'creases'! You'll be asked to claw your hands to get between knuckle creases, too.Follow instructions on how to stand. It might be a case of ‘left arm up, right arm forwards while you bend your knees’ at some points, but while you may feel silly it's easy to follow.
- All therapists seem to have an individual 'secret' technique. Some might buff the skin with a mitt around the wrists and ankles for perfection when they're done, or others may dry you down with an air hose to ensure you're fully dry.
- When you're dry you can get dressed. You should ideally bring thongs, loose, dark clothing and nothing that may rub the tan off.
- Most formulas nowadays aren't too funky-looking before the wash-off, however the guide colour of your tan will probably appear darker than the finished result. Don't freak out! When you go about your day you should pass for looking like you've upped the ante on the bronzer.
- If you don’t like the smell of the fake tan and you want to disguise it, apply perfume to your clothes, not your skin!
- Ecpecially if it's your first time it's probably best not to make big plans for the rest of the day – chances are you'll look totally fine but you may want to go home and hide. It depends on the brand used/your natural skin tone/how your skin 'takes' to a tan.
- You can shower after 6-12 hours, or less if you have a tan with an 'express' formula that brands like St. Tropez offer.
- If you're planning on washing it off the next morning it doesn't matter if it's more than 8 hours later, just be prepared for a bit of a mess if you have white bed sheets. Or pile on the towels!

It is better if you have nail polish on before your tan, even if it is just a clear coat. It prevents your nails from staining. If you have acrylic nails or a gel manicure on before your spray tan appointment, the spray tan will not ruin your nails.
It is recommended that you have any facial or body waxing done prior to your spray tan. Do not get waxed after your spray tan and before your initial shower.
Threading and waxing of eyebrows and lips should be done prior to your tan. It is okay to have your eyebrows plucked the same day after your tan. Threading can be done after your initial shower.
Please, exfoliate with a non-oil based, gritty scrub or exfoliant prior to your tan. You want to remove all dead skin so your tan looks as even as possible.
Eyelash extensions are okay to have on and do not affect your spray tan. Because of the way eyelash extensions are applied, it is recommended that they be applied before your spray tan appointment. They can be applied the same day, as long as it is before your spray tan! This is because of the gel pads/tape that is used in the application process.
You cannot have any lotion, makeup, sunscreen, deodorant, perfume, or oil on your skin at the time of your appointment - even if it has been applied earlier in the day.We have makeup wipes in the salon if you need to remove makeup prior to your appointment. The makeup wipes at our salon can also be used to remove any lotion you have on at the time of your appointment, but for the best results it is better to remove the lotion in the shower or do not apply any lotion after you get out of the shower before your appointment.

How to Choose Spray Tan Colours for Every Occasion. Picking out the right spray tan products is not always as easy as finding a formula that fits your skin tone. Seasonal changes, special events and beach getaways can shake up your ordinary tanning routine. Generally, you want to stick to base colours that look the most natural on your skin tone. Go a shade lighter in winter and a shade darker in summer. If you are a beginner and want to try a spray tan at a salon, ask your technician for help. Most salons have detailed colour guides that can help you make the right decision.When in doubt, go with a lighter formula. It is much easier to build lighter colour up than strip down a darker tan, especially if you have naturally pale skin. Remember that there are many tan-enhancing accessories you can use to darken your base tan, so there is no need to take risks to get the results you want. For those special occasions when you need a deeper tan, go no more than one or two shades darker. The darkest tanning solutions are specifically designed for people with naturally darker skin, so they can come out patchy and orange on lighter skin tones. If you still want to go darker after your spray tan develops, enhance it with bronzers and gradual tanning lotions.
Preventing a Blotchy Spray Tan. Prepare your skin to make sure you don’t get white spots. Exfoliate your skin the day before your spray-tan session to get rid of dead skin cells and help the spray tan stick evenly. Do not use makeup, lotion or deodorant the day of your spray tan, as these items can form a barrier between the solution and your skin and may result in uneven color. After the treatment, try to keep your skin dry for 8 - 12 hours, or less if you have a tan with an 'express' formula. Avoid showering, sweating or swimming. Once it’s time to shower, use a gentle soap (soap free products) and water, but skip the loofah or washcloth, which are too abrasive and may take away some of the color. The more tanning solution you have had applied to the skin, the more moisturiser you need to apply to encourage the tan to wear off more evenly.
Lemon Juice and Baking Soda. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a bowl, then mix in a couple of tablespoons of baking soda. The mixture should be a thick paste. Hop in the shower and scrub the mixture onto the areas of your skin that are blotchy, until they become blended.
Tinted Bronzer. This probably is not an option if there are big areas on your body that are white, but for a few minor spots, tinted bronzer will do the trick. Pick a bronzer that matches closely with your tanned skin color. Rub it onto the white spots and the surrounding areas so it blends in with your skin. You’ll likely have to apply the bronzing cream every day until your spray tan begins to fade.
Try a Do-Over. Sometimes the only way to really fix white spots after a spray tan is to hop right back into the tanning booth for a do-over. A second coat of tanner will fill in the white spots and make the tan even. Don’t worry about the white spots being lighter than the rest of your skin. Once the spots are filled in with color, the difference will be barely noticeable, if at all. Allow at least 24-48 hours in-between being sprayed a second time to avoid any possible orange undertones.

- Do not shower, swim, exercise, use sauna, moisturize, or get wet for the first 6-12 hours, or less if you have a tan with an 'express' formula after your treatment.
- Wear dark, loose fitting clothes until after washing the bronzer off. If the clothes rub it can remove sections of tan. If clothes are too tight it can result in buildup of heat and cause the tan to develop too much.
- When drying after a shower, do not rub, pat dry instead.
- Moisturize after every shower to keep skin hydrated, so the tan wears evenly.
- Use a soap free body wash, as soap can reduce the life of the tan.
- Do not wax while the tan is on (this could be done a day before).
- Limit the amount you shave after your spray tan, as shaving is a form of exfoliation. However, shaving after your initial shower is okay.
- When shaving, ensure that the area is very wet and soapy to avoid removing too much dead skin cells from the skins surface.
-Do not exfoliate until wanting to remove the remainder of the tan.
- Always wear sunscreen when out in the sun. Mix non-scented moisturizer with your sunscreen and put both on at the same time each time you would normally apply your sunscreen - especially after prolonged exposure to the sun, being in the ocean or being in the pool. This will help extend the life of your spray tan.
